Location: Bung Goi – Phu Quoc – Vietnam Site Area: 500 m2 GFA: 320 m2 Scope of work: • Full scope design Photo by MinQ Bui Built on a triangular plot in the still sparsely populated hamlet of Bung Goi on Phu Quoc island. The client — GM of a well-known resort on the island — asked for a close connection between inside and outside. The site faces west, so the house must be protected from afternoon sun. The parents' bedroom also needed to be set apart from energetic children, giving them space to rest. The main ideas of the project: • A wide veranda linked to the swimming pool for daily outdoor family life, with folding sliding glass doors that keep the indoor–outdoor connection even in bad weather. • The upper floor cantilevers beyond the lower volume to cast shade, while operable timber louvres outside the glass windows block heat build-up, let breeze through, and mark the passage of time through moving sun shadows. Recycled wood for the louvres helped keep construction within budget. • The master bedroom sits on the upper floor, connected only to the infant's room — giving parents privacy and a panoramic view of the surrounding landscape.
